Becoming an entrepreneur may have been a lifelong goal, or maybe you just stumbled upon it. Either way, The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) of McLean County located at Illinois Wesleyan University is available to help guide you through starting your own business and to show you what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur.

Crystal Larkin, owner of Crystal Clear Home Solutions says she “never expected or had the goal to be an entrepreneur.” It was only when she realized she could combine her passion to help people with her organizational skills and turn that into a career path. So, she decided to explore how organization and decluttering of homes and offices could improve people’s lives. However, Crystal knew there was a lot more to starting a business than simply having an idea.

She was referred to the SBDC by a friend who had her own positive experience. Crystal admits she “did not even know how to start a business and would not have one without the SBDC.” She took advantage of resources the center provides, the first one being the How to Start a Business Seminar that allowed her to develop a checklist on different parts of the company she would need to consider. Her enterprise has received ground-up help from the SBDC as far as developing a name, website, social media accounts, and determining pricing. She says “I am thankful for the SBDC for being an amazing resource as I continue to learn and grow in the business aspects of Crystal Clear Home Solutions.”
